16/7/08: E3 Now Mate, Settle Down

Guess what? Rare had a decent presence at E3 this year, old-school style, and for once there was no shortage of screenshots and videos and stuff knocking about to upload here for your viewing pleasure.

Over 20 new screenshots of both our long-winded upcoming titles Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts and Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise have been added to the respective sections, including a few that should - initially, at least - be exclusive to this very site (providing they didn't get leaked during the pre-E3 media carnage).

We've also got movies of both games, with some previously unseen footage in the Piñata department, and our first bit of lovingly crafted Nuts & Bolts wallpaper for those who enjoy the security of a bear and/or shaman on their screen at all times. There have even been whispers of extra exclusive material coming this way in the weeks ahead, though I might have to edit this page and engage in plausible deniability should any such material fail to appear.

One other item that possibly caught your attention is the announcement of the original Banjo-Kazooie coming to Xbox Live Arcade, something that you sassy punters have been demanding on a regular basis for some time now. Quick info dump: it's being handled by 4J Studios up in Dundee, and will be brought to you in 1080p hi-def glory with all the expected XBLA accoutrements such as built-in Achievements and Leaderboards. It'll even include yet another iteration (hopefully a successful one this time) of the fabled Stop 'n' Swap system, now intended to unlock stuff in Nuts & Bolts.

See, we told you last year when everything was suspiciously quiet around these parts that it wouldn't last long. Now you've got Nuts & Bolts, Trouble in Paradise, Pocket Paradise and XBLA Banjo-Kazooie all due out before the end of the year, and even more to come, including further details of Rare's involvement in the Xbox Live Avatars project. So much going on, it's enough to make a grown man soil himself. Disclaimer: no grown men at Rare soiled themselves during the production of demos and press material for E3 2008.
